It’s Branding Week!

It’s branding week! We started preparing early by cleaning the garage yesterday, which is where we will feed the crew.  We had some good slave labor helping get the job done. However, they have banned us from parking on the cement pad until branding is over, which I feel is a fair deal. The rest of the week will be full of track meets (three before branding and one the day after), a spring concert, an honors program, an extensive grocery run, moving several bunches of cattle around for the big day, building a branding pen, cooking lots…

Cowgirl Chronicles: Blessings Bestowed~

We turned everything out on green rye pasture today, April 28th. It feels amazing, so amazing. We have never stopped feeding hay so early in the spring before. All I can think about is last year. At this point last year, we were bracing for the 2022 Drought 2.0. and all of our cows were on a barren dryland field. Sand blew every day because it was so dry and every morsel of nutrition those cows ate came from a hay feeder.
